In this simulation, students are asked to come up with the Compromise of 1850. This helps them understand the issues more in depth and when the real terms of the compromise are given to them, they are more engaged and will remember it better. (Bloom’s taxonomy). The class is first divided in North and South. Half of the class will represent the North and the other half the South. Give the Northern half the “North” worksheet and the Southern half the “south” worksheet. Then within those halves, make students work in pairs so that they can discuss and understand their position as North or South. After about 7-10 min, they are switched around and each person will be matched with another student from the opposite group. Then they are ready to come up with a compromise since they understand their positions. By Creative Educator
