This Computer Application Extension is created to add onto the Computer Application Semester Course (& Google), not to replace any of the work on that course. If you’re in our situation Computer Applications turned into an entire year course, instead of a semester. To help with lessons we came up with 13 additional units to add to the Computer Applications Semester Course. 1. Vision Board Unit-

This lesson is designed to educate students on vision boards and how to create them using canva,com website. Students will create their own digital vision boards over their futures. This is a wonderful project for any subject to have students take some time to visualize what they want out of their future and personal lives.

2. Research & Copyright Unit-

This is a unit to cover research and copyright for a high school computer applications course. With demonstration and application students will be able to understand how to research properly, evaluate websites on their relevance and reliability, and have a full understanding of plagiarism and copyright. This is a great introductory course for students to make ethical decisions when researching and dealing with copyright. This lesson has students learn through power point presentation, videos, interactive activities, and multiple assessments. The final project for this unit has students create a digital animation video that explains how to make smart decisions when researching and following copyright laws.

This lesson has students making an infographic over a technology device, however you can change the topic of this lesson very simply but choosing what works best for you class, because I designed the step by step instructions to teach students how to create an infographic online. Students will be also learning how to research the web for information.

My students and principal love this lesson!

4. Mail Merge Unit-

This is a Unit created for Word 2010 but it is compatible with all versions.This is a unit to teach high school level computer applications class about using mail merge without a book.Students will learn how to use the mail merging tool on word through 3 YouTube tutorial I created. Then students will work on 4 activities that have written and picture instructions. This allows students to apply and practice the knowledge they were taught. Students will has a project at the end of the unit where they will create a birthday invitation from scratch using word and will use mail merge to write a letter, and create the envelopes and labels for their invitations. Student step by step instructions are included along with an example and rubric.

In this unit students will cover some of the following:

- Create a invitation using word shapes and clip art skills.

5. Coding Project-

This lesson include the following:

- 1 teacher tutorial youtube video. This video shows students the assignment along with a basic introductions to scratch!

-1 Teacher Instructions that shows two different ways to learn the Scratch Program (This is a free download)

-1 Student Step by Step instructions that teach them how to learn the program on their own. On this document alsocanca include 3 projects students are to create while using scratch.

This lesson was designed to have students explore the program Scratch and be creative while creating projects. This program teaching Students how to program movies, videos, and create digital art. This lesson can be 1 week to 6 weeks long

6. Graphic Designs Project-

This lesson is designed to teach students how to create a digital school poster using the canva,com website. The students are to create an school poster that advertises the school great qualities. This can also be changed to giving each student a different area of the school to cover. For example a sporting poster, academic poster, etc. This project is great to have students learn about their school while learning a new free website to create digital posters.

7. Digital Presentation Project-

This project is created to have students create a short film using In this assignment is is assigning students to make a short film over their future in education. This was created as a extension project after learning powerpoint. It is designed to show students another way they can present their information. This is a very popular subject right now. However in this assignment you can change the topic of the short film to any area that best suits your classroom. I really enjoyed this project with my students.

8. Animation Presentation Project-

This assignment is to have students create a video using the website The assignment sheet has step by step instructions with how to create an account, and use the website. IT include instructions on how to create a proper video for class. It also includes a grading rubric.

9. 14 Website Explore Activities-

This bundle include 14 worksheets that take 1 class period to complete. These are worksheets that have students explore educational websites. As a technology teacher it is essential that my students have the skills to learn to navigate and explore different websites. These worksheets are created to have students spend about 20+ minutes on a website exploring, and then spend the rest of class answering questions about the website they explored. These are great activities for subs, students who are done with work early, or for a weeks worth of activities for your class to learn about new websites while exploring how to really learn to navigate through websites. The websites students explore during these activities are listed below:












10. 3 Scavenger Hunts-

This is a activity that has students search the internet for websites that they can use for different purposes. It is great lesson for learning how to search the internet along with learning useful websites. The other activity is to have students work on their skills of using search engines online, and they also are learning basic computer terms.

11. 5 Technology Terms Cross Words/ Scavenger Hunts

This lesson include 5 activities that have 20+ technology vocabulary questions. 3 of the activities are cross word puzzles and 2 are scavenger hunts. Each activity comes with answer keys for the teacher. These are wonderful activities for when you have a sub or if you want students to learn technology vocabulary.

In this lesson plan the following is include:

12. 2 End of Semester Reflection Projects –

This bundle includes two projects for students to reflect on the knowledge they have learned during the semester in your class. One project is basic, and one is advanced. This is a great project to end your semester on!

13. Final Exam-

If your school is like mine then you are required to give a final to your students during the last day of school. This document is a final exam created for Computer Applications. Students have a 85 minutes class period to finish this exam. This is a final project that has students show their knowledge of all the word skills they have learned throughout the semester. Students research their dream college and create a digital poster on Microsoft Word covering the following skills:

- Word Text, Formatting, and Shapes Basics

- Creating Bullets, Text Boxes, Tables and Graphs

- Researching skills

Students are assessment on the skills listed above and so much more. This exam also includes a rubric to grade the students with.


This project is designed to have students create their very own E-Portfolio for your class. An E-portfolio is a great self-reflection and assessment tool for students that require them to include all projects from your class and reflect on the knowledge gained in the class. On top of creating the E-Portfolio students are creative, innovative, and learn digital literacy skills while learning how to build a website.
