Play this card game in groups of three or four. Shuffle the cards and place the deck in the middle. Player 1 takes a card and reads the clue aloud. Players 2 and 3 try to guess the answer first. Player 1 gives the card to the player who guesses correctly. If both players answer correctly at the same time, Player 1 returns the card to the bottom of the deck. If neither player answers correctly, Player 1 reads the answer and returns the card to the bottom of the deck. The player to the left takes the next turn. The player with the most cards at the end is the winner.
This serious game provides a fast, social method of learning field-of-study vocabulary. Since only the first correct answer can win the card, this game provides opportunities to develop fluency and accuracy in a structured way. Turn-taking promotes a willingness to communicate and the equal participation of all group members. Reading the clue aloud promotes a focus on pronunciation and attentive listening. Mispronunciations and misunderstandings lead to spontaneous clarification requests, peer-feedback, and peer-instruction.
