As much as children use technology a lot of the time, when it comes to using computers, Microsoft Word, sending emails or researching the internet, many students are still very unfamiliar with the 101 of computing.
I created this worksheet as a form of cheat sheet. At the beginning of the year in our first computer lab session, I asked the students to find the symbols which matched certain commands. They then drew the symbol on their sheet as a record. This visual and hands-on activity allowed my students to get a grasp of using their computers at the beginning of the year and it made my life as a teacher so much easier throughout the year. They also thought it was really fun and sort of turned it into a competition. If needed, they could refer to it throughout the year. I recommend laminating them once they are done.
I left some spaces so that they can come up with their own.
