Science students use many math tools to evaluate data. This concept comparison examines how asking them to take an average might mean taking the mean. Or the median, or the mode.

The Frame Routine is a strategy designed to assist students as they organize topics, main ideas and details about reading assignments. This technique includes a basic hierarchic graphic organizer called a "Frame" that can be used to help students think and talk about the key topic and essential related information.

Teachers use the Strategic Instruction Model (SIM) Framing Routine to transform abstract main ideas and key topics into a concrete representation that helps students think about and talk about the key topic and essential related information. SIM is about promoting effective teaching and learning of critical content in schools. SIM strives to help teachers make decisions about what is of greatest importance, what we can teach students to help them to learn, and how to teach them well.

These Concept Enhancement Routines have the following learning objectives and outcomes:
SWBAT select and analyze the measure of central tendency.
SWBAT interpret data in tables and graphics, and analyze information.

These Concept Enhancement Routines are classroom tested to help students with the following Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in Science:
SC.8.N.1.1 Define a problem from the eighth grade curriculum using appropriate reference materials to support scientific understanding, plan and carry out scientific investigations of various types, such as systematic observations or experiments, identify variables, collect and organize data, interpret data in charts, tables, and graphics, analyze information, make predictions, and defend conclusions.
MA.6.S.6.1. Determine the measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) and variability (range) for a given set of data.
SC.8.E.5.6 Create models of solar properties including: rotation, structure of the Sun, convection, sunspots, solar flares, and prominences.
