A single-page concept map style overview of the concepts directly mentioned in the NGSS* Physical Science Disciplinary Core Idea HS-PS1: Matter and its Interactions.
There are also breakdowns of the following disciplinary core ideas:
• Structure and Properties of Matter (PS1.A)
* Chemical Reactions (PS1.B)
* Nuclear Processes (PS1.C)
Solid lines and arrows connect concepts that are explicitly linked in the standards, and dotted lines and arrows connect concepts that are implicitly linked, in the author's opinion.
Use this as a visual for your own planning and/or as a handout to students who are taking a standards-based chemistry course to introduce the scope of the standards.
This document makes no mention of the Science and Engineering Practices or Crosscutting Concepts that tie in. I plan to create other student-friendly poster/charts that will help with explaining those to students. You definitely need those additional two dimensions to address the new standards.
I welcome feedback.
