This concept of word set is designed as an intervention for students who are at the developing and rudimentary levels of concept of word as defined by the PALS (Phonological Awareness and Literacy Screening) test. However, this intervention can be used with any child who needs to develop their concept of word. Each set contains the directions for each level of student.

To get full benefit of this set, the poem in this set has been introduced to the entire class as the Poem of the Week the prior week. Therefore, students needing further concept of word knowledge have a working understanding of the poem and are familiar with the rhythm.
