Brunswick High Instrumental Concert is tonight. Instruments were taken for a final tuning to Music Tunesmith Corporation the night before. Unfortunately, the management failed to deliver the instruments to the school on time, as they lost the storage keys. Luckily the storage could also be open by using the correct combinations of 4 different locks on the door. However, the list of combinations is no where to be found. The school wants to hire you to bring in the instruments before tonight's concert, that is ONLY 45 minutes from now. You agree to take the case, but you make no promises. The entire Brunswick Township School District is counting on you to retrieve the locked instruments. Music Tunesmith Corporation provides you with a set of clues to identify the combinations needed to unlock each of the 4 locks and to bring the instrument to the high school. TICK tock, your time starts now!

This digital Breakout is a review to Solving Radical Equations. There are 5 different models used in this activity:

In Digital Breakout the following models of Solving Radical Equations are reinforced:

► Radical = Number

► Radical = Radical

► Radical = Variable

► Radical = Binomial

► Radical = Radical ± Number

Each of the 4 locks will need a mastery of solving these type of equations to find the correct combinations of the lock. (No Rational Equations are present in this activity). Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking are very evident as students trying to breakout.

Students will interact with:

► Google Sites (Must have access)

► Google Sheets (Must have access)

► Google Forms (Must have access)

► Google Drawings (Must have access)

► www.jigsawexplorer.com

Please make sure that school/district does not block out of domain sharing of Google Drive Resources as well as the JigsawExplorer website.

This activity addresses:

A.REI.2: Solve simple rational and radical equations in one variable, and give examples showing how extraneous solutions may arise

A.CED.4: Rearrange formulas to highlight a quantity of interest, using the same reasoning as in solving equations

When this activity was completed by my students they shared how much they've enjoyed it as it allowed them to work together and the "Mystery" part of it when finding the combinations made them think outside the box.
