Description

Are you tired of reading, "And these are the reasons why..."? Do your students struggle with writing concise and effective conclusions? Do their conclusions favor summary over synthesis? This one to two day lesson on how to write a conclusion paragraph will help you lead them from struggling to success.

Begin with a concise presentation that covers the X Y Z, the essential ingredients, of an effective conclusion paragraph. This presentation is in PowerPoint and Google Slides format. Text on the Slides version is editable.

Follow by discussing and evaluating three example conclusion paragraphs that are each editable in PowerPoint and Google Docs. The conclusion paragraph examples feature questions to spark identification of elements and evaluation of the paragraphs.

The final piece of this conclusion paragraph lesson is a graphic organizer with a memorable approach for helping students remember what to put in a conclusion paragraph. You will have both a PDF and Google Slides version.

Conclusion paragraphs should not be a hurdle. Scaffolding students' understanding by focusing on what matters most will help to alleviate their fears and your stress.

Format: This unit is both digital and print for face to face and online learning.

Please note: This lesson was created with argumentative writing in mind.

THIS RESOURCE IS ALSO INCLUDED IN A LARGER ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING BUNDLE FOR GRADES 7-12.
