Tired of writing "so what?" next to every conclusion? Do your students suffer from repeating their theses and key points alone and pretend that they are acceptable ways to end an essay? Then try this handout and activity in one, teaching students how to write SIC conclusions!
The handout outlines the components of effective conclusion structure (and pitfalls), while providing mini-writing challenges that allow for students to draft their conclusions as they learn. The format is simple and visually appealing, with a hint of cheesiness that is still academically appropriate.
I use the handout to teach my college-level students and extend the material/writing challenges into a complete 50 minute lesson, but the handout can be used for any essay type, as a quick handout to students or as a tool for an in-class learning activity.
