Expose your students to authentic usage of the conditional tense to hypothesize what would happen if a relationship ended using the music of popular and contemporary French artist, Sheryfa Luna.
In this activity, students will first brainstorm qualities of healthy and unhealthy romantic relationships while filling in a chart designed to activate their prior knowledge. They will conjugate the missing verbs from the lyrics to the song in the conditional and then will listen to the song "Si tu n'étais plus là" (please find a recording of the song...or look it up on my YouTube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuVGA2-POfG5lW35HjYJMKfMQGZM4BS3e) to verify their verb conjugations.
After checking the answers together (which are included), students will explore the lyrics of the song, highlighting their reading comprehension skills and challenging them to interpret the relationship described throughout the song using the lyrics for support of their position.
Students will also try to turn the fear of the unknown expressed in the song into positives during an interpersonal speaking activity...or turn into a written activity to have students review the futur simple or continue working on the conditional.
Finally, students will read a short internet article about jealousy in relationships and use it to write a response to Sheryfa in the form of an advice column letter.
