This is a St. Patrick’s themed activity for Smart board. Upper elementary school students will learn about the conductor and conduct in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 time signatures along with a variety of music! This interactive lesson has many sound clips and is great for meeting your National Standards, as students also learn about Ireland and traditional Irish instruments and music.
-“If you lived in Ireland…” slide: interesting facts and pictures of Ireland
-Pictures of traditional Irish instruments with SOUND CLIPS and link to Irish step dancing video
-Introduction to conducting and the role of the conductor
-Conducting patterns in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4, with St. Patrick’s Day theme!
-SOUND CLIPS of songs in each meter (a march, a waltz, and a modern Irish song) for students to conduct along
-Interactive activities matching conducting patterns with their time signatures, and matching rhythmic patterns with their time signatures
-Notation for the song “Michael Finnegan” in BOTH duple and triple meter, so students can compare time signature and learn a traditional Irish tune. SOUND CLIP included.
