Help you students develop problem-solving and STEM skills by having them design a warm home for a penguin. This can be used as a summative assessment after a conductors and insulators unit, or as a formative assessment during the unit.
Students will be asked to do things like:
-identify materials as insulators or conductors
-conduct research on the habitat of a penguin
-sketch a prototype
-describe a construction plan
This was also a great way to make the lesson authentic by talking about the job of a structural engineer, and the process of planning, proposing, building, and reflecting.
