A recent Conference Night at school inspired me to create this new tool. As a reading coach, I am able to problem solve with teachers as they piece together resources for parents so they can help their child with reading at home…from reading games, extra leveled readers, question/task cards, etc. But the challenge here is two fold: First, because teaching reading is a craft…and a difficult one to master at that…parents are often unsure of how to help their young readers at home, and as teachers, we have the challenging task of gathering resources and explaining to parents just how to help their child. This tool will help you with that! You will be able to offer parents this resource as a means of promoting parent strategy talk at home. Parent will not be limited to the age old phrase, “Sound it out” when trying to help their young readers at home. Instead, these tools will promote parents’ use of strategy talk, helping grow their child as a reader. This tool will be focusing specifically on: Does it make sense? Does it sound right? Does it look right?
Included is a parent letter, parent friendly descriptions of the strategies, strategy talk prompts/questions for each, and examples of how to use with their child.
This tool will give parents strategy talk to implement right away…with any book…at home with their child!
Thank you for your interest in this download. Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback. I’m always eager to reflect on and improve my products…please rate and leave feedback so that I continue my TpT journey!
