The beginning of the school year is always filled with excitement and wonder, as well as anxiety for both us, the kids and the parents!
Each year when my school had Open House or Meet Your Teacher Day, I always provided a sign-up sheet for informal conferences. These were not mandatory but went a long way in building relationships with the families of my students.
The beauty of these conferences is there is NO AGENDA! Parents come and just talk about their child. I would offer coffee, tea or juice. The conferences were 20 minutes and I conducted them before and after school during the first couple weeks. Not everyone signs up but those who do are the parents you probably want to make the strongest connection with as they are going to be involved in their child’s education.
The other positive about doing these so early is that I didn’t or couldn’t really comment on their child because I was just getting to know them so I was really just listening. The parents LOVED it and by the time official conferences happened, we had already established a rapport. It’s a great first step.
Included in this product is an editable sign-up sheet so you can add the days/times that work for you, as well as an editable confirmation form (in color or black & white) that you can type right into. If you want to keep the font consistent with mine, you can purchase it from Hello Literacy. It’s HelloAntsOnFire size 16.
Also included is a parent questionnaire that you can have parents fill out prior to meeting with you. It is available in color and black and white. This will also give you time to ask any questions as well.
I know you will be a hit with your community as people will see you as the teacher that goes the extra mile!
