In literature, conflict is the central issue or problem and makes the story move. Short stories have one conflict, while novels have many. Literary conflict includes 1) internal and 2) external conflicts.
Task: Identify the conflict in your independent reading book. Using Post-its, jot down the conflict. If you can, identify more than one conflict. Challenge yourself. Find an internal and external conflict. Questions to consider:
1. What is the conflict, or issue in the story?
2. Is it an internal or external conflict? Why?
