Suggested Directions for Use:
1.Choose one script to use then cut, laminate and glue to a container of your choosing. Use your copier to reduce to the size you want.
2. Print (cardstock is best) and cut out the “faces & feelings” cards and laminate. They can be cut as squares or ovals. Cards may be displayed on tongue depressors, magnets, placed in a pocket chart, etc. You know best how to serve your students’ needs and grade level.
3. Teach the various feelings and act out situations which may cause that feeling. Use the Role Play cards and also model I statements. These can also be used during reading instruction for understanding characters and their feelings.
4. Most importantly, teach and model how to give and receive an” I Statement.” It is important to guide students in using the script appropriately. Encourage them to:
make eye contact
speak respectfully, without raising your voice
listen, do not interrupt
make and accept apologies
5. Encourage children to use Faces and Feelings cards to give positive feedback to others as well, not just to resolve conflict.
