Included in this zip folder are 16 PDF files. 1 is an introductory lesson to congruent triangles, 1 is an explanation of the ambiguity of SSA, 1 is a student reference printable for congruent triangles, 7 files are assignments and 5 files are proofs. A brief description of each:
The Introductory Lesson is a 26 page file. The emphasis is sequencing of information and identifying SSS, SAS, AAS, HL and ASA. SSA is also distinguished from HL.
The explanation of SSA not being a congruence sequence is explained in a 10 page file. A triangle with a fixed 30 degree angle and sides of lenghts 5 and 7 are use to create 2 distinct triangles and disproving SSA as congruence.
The student reference defines:
1. Congruent Triangles
6. HL in lieu of SSA
Proof # 1 is a 13 page instruction file and is free in the PREVIEW file.
Proof #2 is a 14 page instruction file. It uses the definition of perpendicular, reflexive property and definition of a midpoint to prove triangles are congruent by SAS Congruence and then a side by CPCTC.
Proof #3 is a 14 page instruction file. It uses the Vertical Angles Theorem, and the definition of a midpoint to prove triangles congruent by SAS Congruence, then an angle by CPCTC and finally segments parallel by the Alternate Interior Angles Theorem.
Proof #4 is a 13 page file. 2 adjacent triangle with an angle bisector is given. The student proves the triangles congruent and claims sides are congruent by CPCTCT.
Proof #5 is a 14 page file. The student is given an isosceles triangle and a height. It is proved the vertex angle is cut in half by angles being congruent.
Assignment A is a 15 question multiple choice assignment. The emphasis is identifying the sequencing of triangle information and determining if 2 triangles are congruent or not. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #1 is a 20 question multiple choice assignment. The emphasis is using geometric markings to label congruent triangles and to recognize corresponding parts of congruent triangles. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment file #1A is a 24 question assignment. The student is given information and should label the triangle with angle and segment congruence indicators to identify the proper congruence sequence. Also, the student must recognize the correct piece of information given a congruence sequence.
Assignment #1B is a 15 question multiple choice assignment. Triangles are marked in congruence sequences and SSA. The student determines the correct sequence for congruence or not congruent for SSA. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #1C is a 15 question multiple choice file. One side/angle is marked, one side/angle is observed by the reflexive property or vertical angles and another side/angle is given by written information. The student decides congruence by the 5 methods of congruence or SSA and not congruent. It is on 1 page for easy printing. Also, this assignment can be used at socrative.com and the socrative share number is included in the file.
Assignment #1D is a 15 question multiple choice file. Some information is given by markings, some is given by the definitions of angle bisector, midpoint, parallel and perpendicular. The student must decide why the triangles are congruent (if at all). It is on 1 page for easy printing and available for use at socrative.com. The socrative share number is included in the file.
Assignment #2 is a 20 question multiple choice assignment. The emphasis is deciding if triangles are congruent given a picture of 2 triangles. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment file #3 is a 12 question assignment. The 3 proofs above are reformatted and the student has to choose the reason from the statements column. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
