The Coniferous Forest Biome is a group of supplemental materials centered around Science. It approaches this topic from a research angle, while also offering extension activities in Math and Language Arts. It is targeted for the Kindergarten through 2nd grade student who needs less text and more illustrations. There is at least one activity I threw in here that could be used for older students, but that the teacher can read along with the class before setting them off to do the accompanying activity. Included for math are 2 sheets of word problems with simple regrouping, and 1 set of word problems with simple subtraction. There is also a Geometry activity that challenges students to find shapes in the forest. For Language Arts there is an alphabet forest animal tracing activity, two animal spelling activities (word puzzle and animal matching), an animal adjective activity (describing the forest), and an animal verb activity in which students can also learn how animals protect themselves. For reading we've included a matching activity about animal defense in the forest, and a food web activity that involves guided reading followed by a matching activity to show they know what carnivorous, omnivorous, and herbivorous animals are. To help develop independent reading and research, we've also included a KWL chart with a list of suggested guiding questions that can be plugged in, as well as both a book report and website report form.
