This is a Coniferous Forest Food Chain puzzle. The cards are perfect for group work and stations. Each puzzle card has an organism’s name and picture on it. Each of the first six pages has three puzzles and each of these puzzles has a producer, a primary consumer, and a secondary consumer. The sixth and seventh pages have more consumer organisms that can be spliced in to make longer food chains. A set of title header posters and a background coniferous forest habitat picture poster are also included.
The producers in this set include: pine tree, pine needles, pinecone, log, fern, berries, plant, grass, and moss. The consumer organisms in this set are: moose, bear, vole, owl, beaver, cougar, mushroom, flying squirrel, deer, man, mouse, weasel, shrew, owl, beetle, skunk, rabbit, bobcat, caterpillar, bird, turkey, elk, wolf, squirrel, fox, snake, coyote, mole, raccoon, and porcupine. The cards are placed in chronological order on the first six pages.
Need an answer key? Print out the first 6 pages ( 7-11) on a smaller scale, e.g. 6 sheets on a page, to serve as an answer key for students.
Tip: After this activity is done, the cards can be cut in small rectangles and used to make a food web.
