However, this activity is also effective on it's own as revision,
extra practice or as a filler to help reinforce conjunctions and linkers.
Aligned with common core standards for teaching conjunctions as follows:
Common Core Standard
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.1g Use frequently occurring conjunctions (e.g., and, but, or, so, because).
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.1h Use coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.4.2c Use a comma before a coordinating conjunction in a compound sentence.
The game includes practice with:
and, but, so, therefore, as a result, even though,
however, besides and what's more, if, because, as soon as.
Time: 30 mins
Conjunctions bingo gives students practice reading and saying
conjunctions. In small groups, each student is given a bingo card
with five sentences on it.
Each sentence on the cards is missing a conjunction.
The game leader for each group (or the teacher leading the
game for the whole group), pulls conjunctions out of a bag one
at a time.
If the conjunction that is called out fits into a gap in a sentence
on their card, students write it into the appropriate sentence.
