This handout introduces students to conjunctive adverbs and explains how they differ from subordinating conjunctions. Students should be familiar with subordinating conjunctions before reviewing this worksheet. The main objective of this exercise is to help them recognize that words and phrases like "however," "therefore," and "for example" will not combine sentences the way subordinating conjunctions will.
The handout includes two pages explaining the differences, four practice sentences to review with the class as a whole, and fifteen exercises that can be completed either together as a class or individually. The handout for students is three pages long. Including the answer key, this is a six page document.
