We all know how important it is to get students to put forth more effort on assignments. But do students really know what effort LOOKS like?
This packet will help you reinforce student effort through specific encouragement. Instead of giving generic feedback like “great job” or “you worked hard on that,” specific feedback about particular actions will make students aware of how to increase their effort. Students will actually see how effort increases achievement as they self-assess their use of strategies using the effort/achievement rubric.
Included in this packet:
• A poster size chart to display in your classroom to give students easy access to specific actions that indicate effort
• A full size page checklist of the actions students can take to increase their effort. This checklist can be distributed to students to keep in their notebooks as a handy reference.
• Mini abbreviated checklist for quick recognition of effort you see during class
• Effort and Achievement Rubric for student self reflection
