Many of us have used various techniques for teaching connections in our English and language arts classrooms. Frequently, these activities require students to make connections that fall into text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world. While these are a great start, I have found that for my 8th graders, a graphic organizer that just lists these descriptions yields simplistic, incomplete thoughts.
Therefore, I’ve revised this activity to create the following graphic organizer. Students still need to make the three types of connections. But, now they take it a step further to write a claim, evidence, analysis paragraph based on the connections.
