PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These Connotation vs. Denotation Worksheets will enable you to reinforce connotative thinking skills, asking students to think critically about the literal and suggestive meanings of words and phrases. As we know, close reading, as part of the Common Core, is an essential skill, and connotative thinking is a building block to success.

The first worksheet provides students with an example and words to practice with. The next two worksheets can be used with reading to help students reflect on the author's purpose for using words and phrases in the text and with writing to help students reflect on how they will use words and phrases purposefully to create meaning.
