This package contains both the PowerPoint and the Activity Sheets to introduce and practice the word relationship skills of identifying connotative meanings, knowing the difference between connotations and denotations, comparing positive and negative connotations,and identifying and using synonyms and antonyms.
The PowerPoint presentation introduces the important vocabulary skills of identifying and using synonyms, antonyms, denotations, and connotations. Students practice choosing among related words to make their writing more detailed and more interesting. They also use a dictionary and thesaurus to become more independent with these skills.
The activities on the PowerPoint include generating synonyms and antonyms, matching synonyms, matching antonyms, choosing the best synonym, completing graphic organizers, and using word connotations to revise a piece of writing. Also included in a student note sheet for the students to complete as they view the presentation, as well as a completed copy.
