Product Description
This unit by Mrs. S's store is a comprehensive unit that will allow students to explore media, art, science, writing, and oral language. By no means does the preview show you all of the pages available. The unit has now doubled in size! It has many more pages of text articles that can be given to students as part of a very detailed reading program. In addition it will also help prepare students for state/province testing with key questions and short answer style questions.

Students will make use of graphic organizers to explore deeper meaning inference questions in "The Lorax."

Students will also work on a guided research project with key questions, and rubrics. They will formulate questions and make use of resources included in the packet to complete their research and choose an endangered animal to research. The resource will list all animals they are able to choose as well as a rubric to help guide students to a better result. You can choose to use the page that will allow them to formulate the questions or the page that will help give them the questions so they can research with questions already in place.

Students will plan and write a short recount as their chosen endangered animal. For teachers there is a rubric included as well as a short lesson on the aspects of a recount and another page on several suggested recount texts to use. In addition there is an anchor chart ready to go to use with Recount texts. Included is a planning sheet as well as a piece of paper that will help them limit their recount to two pages.

Students will culminate the unit with the creation of a poster to encourage others to action as well. Included is a rubric to mark the poster and also to help students set criteria. In addition I have also included an anchor chart for teachers to display in the classroom

In addition students will be required to present their animal orally to the class.

Included in this packet is everything you need to run this unit for three weeks of language time. Can also be used for project based learning in science as well.
