In this lab exercise students are testing different methods of melting an ice cube. The activity lists seven different ways it could be done. Students sort the methods by type of heat transfer and then work through the steps of the scientific process (hypothesis, procedures, data, results, and conclusion). Each student/lab group will test a total of three methods: the one they think will work best and two others they are testing against. The lab packet contains all necessary instructions* and spaces to fill in work and data. The results section includes a grid for a graph.
*The instructions for setting up and testing each method are not included, as writing the procedure is a part of the process.
