In this worksheet students will gain an understanding of the law of conservation of matter. Students will analyze models that show chemical reactions taking place. They will see how the number of atoms and mass stay the same before and after a chemical reaction. Through their analysis they will calculate the mass and identify the molecules that are produced in a reaction.
This product is intended to be used in a variety of ways:
- Bell ringer
- Pre-evaluation of the NGSS standard
- Data analysis practice
- Review over standard
- Sub plans
The NGSS standard addressed in this product is as follows:
7-PS1-5 Develop and use a model to describe how the total number of atoms does
not change in a chemical reaction and thus mass is conserved.
