Description

Enjoy 50% off for the first 48 hours!

Looking for a new way to help your beginning or struggling readers develop automatic recognition of short vowel words with consonant blends and digraphs? Try giving them the repeated reading practice they need with the 119 high-frequency words included in this time-saving set of 48 rapid word charts.

Introduce these short vowel high-frequency words with initial and/ or final consonant blends and/ or digraphs by making the connection between phonemes (sounds) and graphemes (letters). Analyze the phonetic similarities and differences in each set of words. Follow up with repeated readings of the rapid word charts to help your students develop automatic word recognition.

This easy-to-prepare, supplemental resource includes 119 short vowel phonetically regular high-frequency words with consonant blends and digraphs from two popular lists, one with 220 words and the other with 1000 words.

There are 48 different word charts, 26 with new words and 22 with review word lists. These charts have the same 5 words repeated in 5 rows.

The charts are systematically organized by initial and/ or final consonant blends and/ or digraphs. Each set with new words is followed by an integrated, cumulative review of words.

  • initial consonant blends
  • final double consonants
  • final consonant blends
  • initial consonant digraphs
  • final consonant digraphs
  • initial and final consonant blends and/ or digraphs

There are two sets of the same 48 rapid word charts. One set has an action break included in each row. The actions are clap, snap, slap, and stomp. The other set omits the action breaks. You choose the version that works best for your students.

For maximum benefit, your students should

  • be able to decode CVC words with a high level of accuracy.
  • have experience with segmenting and blending 4-5 phonemes.

You’ll love having teacher directions for:

  • two ways to introduce the words that support the development of orthographic mapping.
  • an activity to analyze the phonemes and graphemes that also promotes orthographic mapping.
  • repeated readings of the rapid word charts to help build automatic word recognition and fluency.

You’ll want to use these activities:

  • with your whole class
  • in small instructional groups
  • with individual students
  • with a paraprofessional
  • for homework
