It is a bright summer day and perfect barbecuing weather. You have invited all of your friends to come over and enjoy some extra special grilled treats. As you get ready to fire up the grill and rock your super barbecuing skills, you notice you are missing all the essential ingredients. Now you must dash to the store and pick up the necessary ingredients to keep your title as Queen of the Grill.
Players must start in their backyard and make your way to the title Queen of the Grill by rolling the dice. On each space a player lands, he/she must collect a Barbecue Day card and read the -sp, -sk, and -sm words. If he/she is able to read them correctly, he/she may collect an ingredient of his/her choice on the Barbecue Essential card. If a player lands on a space with a fire, he/she has to move back 1 space because he/she burnt the burger on the grill. The player to make it to the end first with the most ingredients wins the title Queen of the Grill.
This fun summer themed game is a great way for students to practice reading consonant blends: sp, sk, and sm. Each game cards has three words each so students will receive plenty of practice. Extension ideas: have students use one of their words in a sentence to develop word comprehension.
*print additional game cards depending on the number of players!
