Product Description

Lots of practice blending sounds will make reading words with consonant digraphs a snap for your students! This set of winter themed cards and games is a great way to practice in both literacy centers and small groups.

This set includes words with /ch/, /sh/, /th/, and /wh/ at both the beginning and end position in words.

Here's what you'll get in this set:

  • 90 word cards (printed 9 to a page)
  • Six games

Score a Snowball : students read the word on the card and then tally the
number on the card, working toward a total of twenty.

Snowballs! : students read the words and sort the cards according to the
digraph in the word. The first to cover his or her sorting board wins.

Let's Start with a Digraph: students read words that begin with consonant
digraphs and cover spaces on a game board. (25 words)

Ending Up with Digraphs: students read words that end with consonant
digraphs and cover spaces on a game board. (25 words)

Digraph Scramble: students read an assortment of words with digraphs in both
the initial and final position and cover spaces on a game board. (25 words)

Snowball Digraphs: students create their own game by writing their own words
with digraphs, using the format of the previous three games.

How can you use these games?

  • Literacy centers
  • Small group instruction
  • Whole group activity: Put all the cards in a bag. Pass the bag, taking turns pulling out a card and reading it. Keep it if correct. if you pull out a snowball card, put all of your cards back in the bag.
  • Tutoring
  • Parent volunteer activity

Differentiate easily by using only those cards of suitable difficulty for your students. With 90 cards in the set, you'll find plenty to choose from at varying levels!
