I have used the peanut butter and jelly words from the Stevenson Method (www.stevensonlearning.com) for many years to teach CVVC (consonant-vowel-vowel-consonant) words. In this method, the CVVC words are compared to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The two pieces of bread represent the consonants. The crunchy peanut butter represents the first vowel. The second vowel is the jelly. My students love making their own pbj sandwiches and they quickly learn which filling makes the sound and which filling is silent. Attached files include my powerpoint presentation, my CVVC word lists, words for CVVC Bingo, and a list of teaching activities.
