Star watching is a favorite past time of many of us. Many children can look up at the night sky and pick out the shapes we've all grown to love. In this project, your students will choose their favorite constellation and calculate the distance of the stars from Earth using the angle of parallax. Students will also show using the Celestial Sphere where their constellation is located. Students are to illustrate their findings using a poster. The picture shows an example of a student poster.
Designed for 9th grade physical science, but can also be used for the space science section of 8th grade earth science.
