This product has an interactive notebook and a web activity.
The interactive notebook piece gives students a chance to simplify a rather complicated law-making process. It is essentially a flow chart that shows the operational procedure of how a bill becomes a law in Congress. I have found that using a complicated multi-step and detailed law making flow chart is too complicated for my students so I created this to make it more understandable.
There are two separate handouts for the web activity. The first directs students to the government's web site for the House of Representatives. The second directs them to the government's site for the US Senate. Both handouts have students find information about their representatives - background (what did they do before politics?) and legislation that they have sponsored. Students then try to make connections in to bills sponsored and the representative's own personal background.
This activity often leads to rich discussion in my classroom!
Thanks for stopping by!
I would love to hear from you when you get a chance.
