Constitution Day is September 17! Celebrate Constitution Day with this unit for primary grade students. Congress has passed a law requiring that all public schools teach about the U.S. Constitution on this day. So now what? Resources for teaching about Constitution Day to younger children are scarce which is why I developed this mini unit as a way of making the Constitution more meaningful to K-2 students.
This set includes the following:
•An original picture book called, “A Constitution for Liberty Forest”. This story brings the concept of a constitution into terms young children can understand. (16 pages, cute graphics!)
•An easy reader, “Our Constitution” that highlights some basic facts about the U.S. Constitution. (black and white version for kids to color)
•A full page color version of the easy reader, “Our Constitution” to be used by the teacher for shared reading.
•A set of 4 color mini posters (8 ½” by 11”) of the 3 branches of the government.
•A color poster of the Preamble to the Constitution (We the People…)
•A worksheet for the class to write their own class constitution (comes in both color and black and white)
•A U.S. Constitution Quick Reference Fact Sheet for Teachers (hey, we can’t know everything!)
Please note: Although some of this set is in color, those pages can also be printed on a black and white printer. Not as pretty, but just as effective!
Please check this unit out more closely by clicking on the preview button above! Be sure to look at all four slides of the preview!
