Are you looking for an engaging reading activity to do on Constitution Day (September 17th)? This is one of those days that tend to sneak up on a teacher, and I am almost always scrambling to find an activity that I can quickly add to my already-packed day. That's why I decided to create my own PowerPoint and matching craftivity!
The PowerPoint consists of 26 slides. It begins with a brief history lesson on the Constitution (and some of the issues our founding fathers faced). Then it zooms in on the three branches of government, and its role in the Constitution. Each branch is introduced and key roles/responsibilities are described. The final three slides describe the "checks and balances" that each branch of our government can employ.
The craftivity begins where the PowerPoint left off. Students read sentences on leaf images and determine which branch of government is being described. When they are finished with the worksheet, they assemble the craftivity.
