I personally believe it is important for our students to read the foundational documents that established American democracy. Unfortunately, some early founding documents can be difficult for students to process and analyze due to the reading levels and the density of the text. To that end, I have excerpted significant portions of Articles I, II, III, and V of the Constitution into manageable passages for close reading and analysis. The assignment asks students to develop a precise understanding of the functioning of the federal government, why the framers created certain “checks and balances”, and what they think are the most important passages. I have used this in my own classroom for years with great success! This activity is ready to go from the minute you download it. I have also included the .docx file to make any changes you see fit!
8 Pages – Activity should take about 80 minutes to complete and review.
