These Constitutional Convention Center cards are my favorite way to teach social studies content. My students travel around in groups learning about the Constitutional Convention by reading short passages and completing a student-led brochure. I set a timer for 10 minutes and each group is assigned a center card. From there, students are reading the passages about the content material and completing the brochure. I like to have a “reader leader” in each group, which is that student who reads the passage aloud and helps model for any student that needs extra help. Then, I can travel around the room with my lower group. Once the timer goes off, each group rotates to the next card.
I love using this approach in social studies because it keeps my kiddos moving, and it keeps them engaged. Plus my students don’t realize they’re actually reading more social studies material! Yes!
Just print out the center cards( I like to print 6 cards-since I have 5-6 in a group), make copies of the brochure and you’re ready to go! I also like to laminate my cards for extra durability.
Please note- the center cards include mini summaries that cover the Constitutional Convention. Please check out the preview to see some sample cards.
