To study the events which led to the framing and ratification of the Constitution.

Give each student a copy of pages 47A - 47C.
Read with the class the background information and directions for writing compromises on the chart. Give students 10-15 minutes to write their compromises.
Ask a few volunteers to read their proposed agreement between the large states and small states regarding Congressional representation. Then, give students the actual compromise. Do the same for the other four compromises on the chart (Great Compromise, Three-Fifth Compromise, Slave Trade Compromise, and Commerce Compromise).
Read with the class the section on the ratification of the Constitution. Give the students time to write an answer to the Thought Question. Have a few volunteers read their response to the class.
