I created these word problems using the CRA style to make connections between fractions, mixed numbers and our electricity unit in science. Students must understand how to reduce fractions to the simplest form, compare fractions and use what they know about what fractions are to answer questions in writing. They must think and put together the information they have learned about fractions. I use these word problems to walk through the thinking process aloud and to push my students to think on their own to find a solution by drawing out fractions to compare and using the strategies they have been taught in class. Some of these word problems we will do together, other questions I will have then solve on their own and then we will discuss them as a class.
