For our students, learning the structure of constructed response is half the battle. We created these word sorts to help them master the order as a hands-on learning experience.
Because there are so many acronyms for a constructed response, we created sorts that can be used for each of them.
This unit can be used as a whole group introduction to constructed response. It can also be used as a literacy center, small group setting, or assessment to test if students can write the structure of a short answer.
Step 1: Students read a passage.
Step 2: Students complete a premade constructed response sort based on a character trait related question.
Step 3: Students write the order of the constructed response sort in paragraph form on lined pages provided.
Step 4: Students color-code the structure of their paragraph.
