This is a MUST HAVE resource when teaching CCSS 5.OA.A.2!
The targeted focus of this multiple choice activity is to select the appropriate algebraic equation based upon the order of the information presented in the word problem.
Students should understand that it is not just about solving the word problem to get an answer, but more importantly about understanding and visualizing how the problem/scenario is constructed.
Mastery of this math skill will provide a strong foundation for future algebraic instruction and accuracy when solving these types of word problems.
In this resource, there are 36 word problems, with 2 word problems representing each of the following word types:

In addition, I have formatted this resource in three ways for more instructional options:
1. as full size color slides for white board teaching
2. in printable, full size pages in black and white for use at a math center or number station
3. in printable, economical mini-format (black and white)-when paper or copies are limited
Also included are answer keys!
As an extra instructional tool, I have created a Student Answer Document for students to use that provides organizational structure for them, if needed! (2 student answer documents per page)
I have used this resource and have had wonderful results! I hope you will give it a try! As always, Happy Teaching!
