Have students create a working model of the three main fault types (normal, slip and thrust). Students construct a moving model out of card board from clear step-by-step instructions with photos to see how each fault affects the earth when it moves. At the end there is a question worksheet to engage them in critical thinking about the impacts of fault movement.
This is a great activity to help students get some hands on learning for a topic that is hard to see in real time and fantastic for kinaesthetic learners.
The construction of the fault model and answering of questions can take 60+ minutes.
