Lesson 2: Square and Inscribed Hexagon Constructions
Materials: Compass; straightedge; worksheet; device with internet
Students learn how to do different types of constructions with a compass and straightedge:
Hexagon Inscribed in a Circle
This lesson gives students extra practice applying previously learned constructions. Students will use the perpendicular bisector to construct a square. Students will also use geometric tools to construct a hexagon inscribed in a circle.
Worksheets may be printed out, or you may have students draw their circles for the constructions.
The lesson ends with a self assessment where students correctly order the steps for constructing a square and writing the steps to construct a hexagon inscribed in a circle.
Extension with paper folding is available
