This product requires students to select a scam, research the scam, and create an infographic or write an article about the scam. This project fits well into a consumerism unit. I use this in my Personal Finance course, but this project could be used in any number of courses.
Included in this product:
A list of scam options for students to choose from
Basic project instructions
Rubric for grading (both articles and infographics)
Brief PPT explaining infographics
This assignment promotes personalized learning by giving students the option of which scam to research and to choose between writing a short essay (1 page) or creating an infographic in Piktochart. At the conclusion of this activity have students present their research to the class so that all students are familiar with scams and actions to take to protect themselves.
The standard covered in this activity is:
Conduct assessments of various types of identity theft situations and scams, then determine strategies and present a plan to safeguard and protect against identity theft. Design and present a plan to significantly lower and protect against risks. Determine steps that should be taken by a victim of identity theft to report the incident and re-establish identity.
