In this lesson students learn about contemporary conceptual art, and brainstorm and create a unique conceptual art piece. This lesson uses the humorous conceptual biennial exhibit project of Shea Hembrey as an introduction. This is a very fun and adventurous lesson that also involves creating a fictional artist and role playing. I have found it to be a fantastic beginning-of-the-year motivator.
This lesson is designed for my advanced high school art students, but I think other levels could do this if they worked in teams. This document includes a list of materials needed, introductory activity, student instructions and closing activity. I have kept it as a Word document so that you can easily cut and paste the student instructions.
