Use this plan all year long after you teach students the basics of a well developed paragraph. The green star represents your topic sentence/power statement, the yellow boxes are for your students to plan their three main details as well as ways to elaborate on each detail. Finally, the red represents the concluding sentence(s).
I use this while modeling how to plan for a paragraph early in the school year. Students then receive the same plan during centers and complete a paragraph of the week. This plan then becomes something they can complete quickly during our information writing unit. It can also be used to have students summarize what they have learned from any informational article or text book. Very versatile plan!
You don't have to print in color, just have kids use colored pencils to lightly shade the boxes as needed.
