Product Description
Context clues can help students find success in reading, expanding vocabulary, and more. This task card set will teach your students to recognize types of context clues and use them to determine word meaning. It is complete with both instructional cards and answer keys.

Determine Word Meaning
This task card set includes 32 cards with which students can practice determining the meaning of unfamiliar words. Each card has a word used in context with four answer choices. Instructional cards are also included, one for each type of context clue covered, as well as answer keys that explain the answer rather than simply providing it.

Analyze Context Clues
In addition to determining word meaning, this set teaches students to recognize direct, synonym, antonym, and inference context clues. Before students start using the task cards, they can learn about the types of context clues with the instructional cards provided. Once students are done figuring out the meaning of each word, they can sort the cards by context clue type (answer key also provided). This allows them to analyze and better understand how authors use sentence level clues to help readers understand text. In addition to being an important strategy for reading comprehension, this can help students enhance their writing and improve their test-taking skills.

Use to Fit Your Needs
These task cards can be used in a variety of ways to suit your teaching style and your students' needs. They would work well for direct teaching with a document camera, for independent classwork, partner work, or the whole class activity SCOOT. Copies can be made for each student, or a class set can be printed, cut, laminated, and stored in an envelope or bag for a literacy center activity.
