This Context Clue Types Interactive Foldable is great for reading notebooks. It contains 5 types of context clues (definition, synonym, antonym, example, and general). Inside the flap are three sections: a description of each, signal words to clue in when a clue is being used, and an example. The inside has cloze notes, so after students glue them in, we go over them and they fill in the notes, circling and starring important parts or tips. This is a great reference for them to refer to during intervention, guided reading, independent reading, etc.
An answer key of the inside flaps is included for the teacher. Answers are bolded and underlined for easy identification.
I print out pages 2-3 front and back for my students. I have them cut each one out individually and glue them on one page sporadically in their interactive reading notebook. They make a heading of "Context Clues" in the top of the page.
Context clues are such an important skill for upper elementary students to learn, especially with the new Common Core exam. This is a great tool to use all year long in prep for the test It also makes for a great review before state exams!
